How your rating is calculated

Your rating is not an opinion, and it is not the truth about you. It is an estimate of your geometry, compared with a reference and calculated the same way for everyone.

rating = 4.75 + 1.25 × z

1 4.75 10
z is your distance from the reference, taken from your percentile. Right in the middle, you get 4.8.

The rating is a position on a scale

Your rating runs from 1 to 10. 1 means completely disfigured, 10 the most beautiful person in the world: those are the bounds of humanity, not of a group. Your geometry is first placed within a reference for your sex and age group, then set on that scale. Right in the middle of the reference, you get 4.8. If you beat 90% of the reference, you get 6.4.

Until enough people of your sex have scanned, that reference is made of AI-generated faces, not real people. The app then shows neither your tier nor your rank: only your rating.

No perfect proportion is written in the code

Each measurement only states which direction counts. For some, bigger is better. For others, it is the reverse. For most, the best is to be close to the average of your bracket. The real distribution decides what is high and what is low.

The golden ratio and the equal thirds of the face are not used. Research refutes them.

The calculation, step by step

  1. You take two or three guided photos. Your phone extracts 468 points from each one, and the photo does not leave.
  2. A gate checks that your face is straight on: not turned, not tilted, not raised.
  3. The pose is straightened along the axis of the inner corners of your eyes.
  4. Each measurement is taken on all your photos, and we keep the middle value.
  5. Each measurement is compared with your bracket, then capped so that no single one outweighs everything else.
  6. Measurements add up within each criterion, then the criteria add up by their weights.
  7. The total is placed within the reference (a percentile), then set on the scale from 1 to 10: that is your rating.

The weights, read live

Here are the criteria and their weights, as our server returns them at the moment you read this page. They are public, and if they ever change, this list changes with them.

Same photo, same rating

The same photo always gives the same rating. A scan's rating is frozen on its date: it will never move again. The population you are compared with keeps growing. Someone who scans a month after you is placed against more people.
