LooksLadder

Terms of Use

Version dated 15 September 2026 — effective date: 15 September 2026

1. Who provides the service and what do these terms cover?

LooksLadder is published by Paco GOMEZ, established in France. Full details are available in the legal notice.

These terms govern access to the website, account and LooksLadder features. By creating an account, you accept them. The agreement required to post your photos to Votes is requested separately, in the app, and is not part of your acceptance of these terms.

LooksLadder is not offered to people located in the United Kingdom or Australia. It may also be unavailable in another territory where local law requires this.

2. What LooksLadder does

LooksLadder provides a score and report, voting between users, one-to-one duels, rankings and progress tracking.

During an analysis, MediaPipe Face Mesh runs inside your browser. The photos taken for analysis never leave your device. They are neither sent to the server nor stored by LooksLadder. The browser extracts the coordinates of 468 points and measures the sharpness of the face in each photo; only those numbers, calculated on your device, are sent to the server, never the image.

The server converts the measurements into a result and percentile. A percentile means a position within a reference population. For example, the 80th percentile means that the result is above 80% of that reference population. The composition of the population, capture quality and calculation rules affect the result.

Without a subscription, the score is calculated as soon as the coordinates are sent, then kept without being shown to you. The subscription shows it exactly as it was calculated that day, with no new calculation. An upload that is not followed by a subscription within 30 days is deleted, score included.

A duel puts side by side two photos already posted to Votes. It is decided by the votes of real people: no measurement is compared, the score calculated by LooksLadder never decides the result, and no photo taken for analysis is used.

LooksLadder does not promise permanent availability or a particular result. Information about the method and reference population is published on the Method page.

3. Age rules

Features available by age
AgeAccess
Under 15The service is not available and an account cannot be created.
15An account, the scan, the score, the report and progress tracking, and voting on other people’s photos in Votes.
16–17The same features; the rankings, including the 16–17 ranking, where you only appear if you chose to; a public profile without a profile photo; posting photos to Votes with points earned by voting. No duels (section 5).
18 or olderAll features may be available, subject to these terms.

Seeing the rankings and appearing in them is restricted to people aged 16 or older. The public profile exists from age 16; the profile photo only appears in it from age 18. The subscription itself can be purchased from age 18: it opens access to the service, never a feature reserved for an older age. In Votes, rating other people’s photos is open from age 15; posting your own is open from age 16, with the subscription or with 50 points earned by voting. Taking part in a duel requires a photo posted to Votes, so age 16 at least, and starting one requires the subscription, so age 18; as a duel never brings together someone under 18 and someone aged 18 or older, no duel is possible before 18. LooksLadder may request a date of birth and apply proportionate age checks. Lying about your age or bypassing an age control may lead to account restrictions or closure.

The minimum age of 15 is the age at which, in France, a minor may consent on their own to an online service offered directly to children (Article 45 of the French Data Protection Act, adopted under Article 8 of the GDPR). Below that age, consent must be given or authorised by a holder of parental responsibility: for as long as LooksLadder does not collect that consent, no account is opened below 15.

If the law where you live requires a higher age or permission from a parent or guardian, that local rule applies.

4. Your account

You must provide accurate information, use your own identity for necessary checks and protect your credentials. You are responsible for actions taken through your account, except for use outside your control that you report promptly.

An account is personal. You may not sell or lend it, open another account to evade a restriction or use another person's measurements.

Your email address must be your own. To open the public features described in section 5, it is verified with a six-digit code sent to that address, valid for 30 minutes and usable only once. If the account’s address changes, it must be verified again.

You can correct your information from your profile. You can delete the account from Profile > Delete my scans and my account. The Privacy Policy explains the deletion process and time limits.

5. Public profiles, rankings and duels

From age 16 and from your first scan, anyone who knows your username can view your public profile: your username, your country, your age band and, from age 18, the profile photo you chose. It shows neither your score, nor a rank, nor a percentile. Before 16, no profile can be viewed.

You can close your public profile at any time from Profile, and reopen it whenever you want; it is open by default. You can also remove your profile photo at any time; the profile itself disappears when the account is deleted. In a ranking, your username only appears if you ticked the box for it, unticked at first, and LooksLadder does not publish a bottom ranking.

The features that show your photos or your username to other people — posting a photo to Votes, appearing in other people’s voting feed, starting or accepting a duel, appearing in a ranking — require a verified email address (section 4). Until it is verified, nothing of yours is shown there: photos already posted, your duels and your place in a ranking are kept as described in the Privacy Policy and reappear once the address is verified. The scan, the private score, the subscription and voting on other people’s photos remain open without verification.

A duel only exists if both people wanted it. You start one by looking for a ranked opponent, by challenging a username visible on the duel ranking or by sending a link: starting one requires an active subscription, which can be purchased from age 18; accepting one is free. To start or to accept, you need a verified email address, a photo posted to Votes, checked by LooksLadder if you are under 18, and no more than three duels at a time, pending proposals included. Both people are always of the same sex, and a duel never brings together someone under 18 and someone aged 18 or older.

The two photos appear side by side in the Votes feed, in front of voters who do not know it is a duel; neither the two players nor their friends judge it. The duel ends once 11 voters have picked between the two photos or, after 48 hours, as soon as 7 have done so and the two photos are not tied; it is never cancelled for lack of votes. A photo removed, hidden or refused during the duel closes it without a result. During the duel you see nothing about the other player; at the end you see their username and how many voters preferred your photo, never their photo. A ranked duel is played during an open season and moves the Elo; a friendly duel does not. A proposal left unanswered expires after 48 hours. The rules shown in the app before a duel form part of these terms.

LooksLadder creates no biometric template and never tries to recognise who you are from your face: no feature, duels included, requires biometric consent (see Biometric data).

6. Prohibited conduct

You must not:

7. Moderation, reports and appeals

LooksLadder may remove or reduce the visibility of an item, cancel an evidently manipulated result, restrict a feature, suspend or close an account when necessary to apply the law or these terms. Measures take account of severity, context, repetition and the rights of the people involved.

When a restriction is imposed, the affected user receives, where contact details are known and unless legally prohibited, a clear and specific explanation stating the reason, any use of automation and the available avenues of appeal.

Anyone may use the reporting page, including without an account. A reporter who provides contact details receives an acknowledgement of receipt followed by the reasoned decision and available avenues of appeal.

Monthly subscription

The subscription costs 11.90 € per month. It starts after payment approval and, where requested, the express choices relating to immediate performance. It renews automatically each month until cancelled. The next charge date and total price are shown before purchase and repeated in the confirmation sent on a durable medium.

Three-month pass

The pass costs 26.90 € for three months. It starts after payment approval and expires without renewal at the end of the three months. Buying another pass requires a new action from you.

VAT

TVA non applicable, article 293 B du CGI (VAT not applicable, article 293 B of the French tax code). LooksLadder is published by a micro-entrepreneur under the French VAT-exemption scheme: no value added tax is charged or collected. The amounts of 11.90 € and 26.90 € shown above are therefore the sums due, with no VAT to be added to them.

The payment method, the payment provider's identity and any specific conditions are displayed before you confirm the purchase. No tax is added to the prices shown. LooksLadder does not store full card details; they are processed by Stripe Payments Europe, Limited (Ireland).

The final button says “Order with an obligation to pay” or another equally unambiguous phrase. After purchase, you receive confirmation of the plan, price and choices made.

9. Cancelling the subscription online

Under Article L. 215-1-1 of the French Consumer Code, a free cancellation function is available at all times, easily and directly from Profile > Cancel my subscription. It lets you send the notice and complete the required steps online.

LooksLadder confirms receipt on a durable medium and, within a reasonable time, tells you the end date and effects of cancellation. Unless a more favourable term is shown when you cancel, paid access remains available until the end of the period already paid for. Cancellation stops future renewals; it does not turn the three-month pass into a subscription.

10. Right of withdrawal

As a rule, a consumer has 14 days from contract formation to withdraw. You may exercise that right by sending an unambiguous statement to [email protected].

To obtain immediate access to digital content before the end of that period, checkout separately records your request for immediate performance and your express acknowledgement that the right of withdrawal will be lost, in accordance with Article L. 221-28(13) of the French Consumer Code. Both choices are unchecked by default and confirmed on a durable medium.

If you do not expressly waive that right, the 14-day period continues to apply and the immediate-access flow cannot be completed in this configuration.

Model withdrawal request

To Paco GOMEZ, 360 route du Piraud, 38870 Saint-Pierre-de-Bressieux, France: I hereby give notice that I withdraw from the LooksLadder contract concluded on [date], for [plan], using account [email]. Name: [name]. Date: [date].

11. Availability and changes

The service may be interrupted for maintenance, security, an incident or a legal requirement. LooksLadder seeks to give notice of significant interruptions where reasonably possible.

Features and the method may change. A material change to these terms, a restriction or a paid plan is announced clearly before it takes effect. Where the law requires it, you may reject the change and end the contract.

12. Intellectual property

The LooksLadder name, interface, text, graphics, code, disclosed method and reference databases are protected to the extent provided by law. Access gives you a personal, limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the service while your account remains active.

You keep rights in content you provide. You grant LooksLadder only the rights required to host, display and moderate material you choose to make public, until removal, subject to temporary technical copies and legal retention duties.

13. Liability

Nothing in these terms restricts mandatory consumer rights. Each party is responsible for direct loss caused by its proven breach.

LooksLadder is not responsible for misuse of a result by a user or third party, or for an event reasonably outside its control. This does not apply to gross negligence, fraud, personal injury or where the law prohibits a limitation.

14. Restriction, closure and deletion

You may stop using LooksLadder at any time and delete your account. LooksLadder may restrict or close an account for breach of these terms, a security risk, a legal duty or inability to provide the service. Unless urgent or legally prohibited, you receive the reason and may submit observations.

Account closure ends access. Subscription cancellation and account deletion are different actions: deleting the account also stops future renewals, but some payment or moderation evidence may remain archived where required by law.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. This choice does not deprive a consumer of mandatory protection in their country of residence.

If an issue arises, first contact [email protected]. After an unresolved written complaint, a consumer may use the following consumer mediator free of charge: [À COMPLÉTER: name, address and website]. The consumer may also bring a claim before a court with jurisdiction under the applicable rules.
